The Holiday Season Is Your Season

You deserve to be able to walk away from your business to spend time with your family.

Hard stop, no exceptions.

Let me tell you a little story.

There once was a busy entrepreneur. She had a big dream and was working hard as a team of one to reach her goals. Her business was thriving and everything looked great on the outside, but on the inside she was scrambling to meet deadlines and was overwhelmed by the sheer number of tasks that she had on her plate.

Feeling the pressure of deadlines and client turn arounds, she brought her laptop with her to Christmas dinner. While her family bustled around her, laughing, talking and making memories, she sat on the couch, typing away while her heart yearned to be up, spending time with everyone.

Her nephew, who adored and looked up to his aunt, pulled out his toy cash register and sat down next to her, playing away. When his mom asked him what he was doing, he said, “I’m working like Auntie!”

At that moment, her heart broke and she had to put her laptop down to escape into the bathroom before bursting into tears. She was building this business to fulfill her dreams, but those dreams never involved ignoring family and being so overwhelmed she couldn’t put things away for a day.

Fast forward to now, she has worked diligently to put systems and processes in place to support her. Since then she has expanded her team and solidified her SOPs. Did it happen overnight? No. But she did work towards that goal each and every day, each year making a little more progress than the last.

Now, she can take an entire week off from her business without the worry that things will fall apart without her.

I want this for you too, friend!

Look, if you don’t have the team and systems in place yet, that’s okay. Take some time and set a few expectations with your clients. Block time off on your calendar and promise yourself that you will put work away and spend time with your family for the holiday.

I promise, it will be there when you get back.

Happy Thanksgiving friends!
